There is a Geico Insurance advert that goes “If you are a fisherman, you tell tales, that is what you do. Another one says “if you’re Dora the Explorer you explore, that is what you do. Those are simple facts, funny and somewhat silly in the adverts, but true. You show the attributes of who you are. To borrow from that line of thought let me say ‘if you are light, you shine, that is what you do’.

Christians are the light of the world. Light is supposed to shine, to light up dark places, to be bright. Your light bulbs, light up a dark room, the sun rises and lights up the day.  As Christians we don’t argue with the darkness, questioning why darkness is dark. Darkness has to be dark, but we are children of light and the light shines in the darkness and the darkness overcomes it not (John 1:5). Light does not struggle with darkness, when light comes on, darkness fades away.

Wherever you are, be reminded that you are the light this dark world needs, understand your position, understand the world needs you, and understand that darkness can never overcome light. It might not understand the light, but deep inside it needs the light. So be the light in your corner of the world, let God shine through you, you are God’s workmanship, let it show! Let God’s light in you show in the little things and big things you do. Shine in every way and shine bright, that is what light does!

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Mathew 5:14-16. NIV)

I am the light of the world.   Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12 NIV)

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (John 1:5 NKJV)
