Of Time and Plans

Some investments mature fast and some take time to mature. Some plans take longer to execute than others. In the Finance World; a project or investment might have operating losses, year in year out before it finally breaks even. Some development projects might suck up funds in a company for 5, 10, 15, even 20 years before the company gets its first yield. The management usually knows to stick to the plan,  to keep on at it, and patiently wait till its yield time. When a farmer plants trees he knows it might take 2, 5, even 12 years sometimes before the tree bears fruits. And in that waiting time he keeps cultivating, keeps taking care of His trees. And waits patiently. He doesn’t give up on his plants till the harvest comes.

An example of something that took some time in the Bible is the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50),  Joseph was 16 when he dreamt that his brothers will bow down to him. He spent 14 years in slavery after that before he became ruler of Egypt at age 30. Seven years after he started to rule, the famine came, and it was during the early years of the famine that he met his brothers. That makes it about 22 or 23 years from when he had his dream to when the dream was fulfilled. Wow, that’s some time gone by!

The Bible in Jeremiah 29 says God’s plan for us are good plans, plans to bring us to an expected end. Sometimes we might be going through things that make us doubt that verse in scripture, that makes us doubt God’s plans for us. Some things seem constantly far from reach, or things laid in our hearts just don’t seem like they’re manifesting. It’s important to remember God has our good in mind, He loves His children. Not every thing happens fast, some take time. Has God laid a dream in your heart? Anchor your trust in Him. Keep cultivating yourself, keep feeding on His word and trusting. Be encouraged, sometimes it’s the high yielding investments that take the most time. He who hath promised is faithful.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)

  2. He makes all things beautiful in his time! While we can always expect good things, even if it does take a while, we should always be obedient to God in spite of those good things. For he’s given us the best thing of all – eternal life in Christ Jesus and as such we owe him our lives

    1. Thanks Rotimi. Well said. He’s given us the gift of Him, which truly is the best thing of all. It gets hard to wait when things take a while, but knowing we have the big stuff which is Jesus and Eternal life, should help us not sweat the small stuff. God help us all. 🙂
